The Just Transition Commission visited Tighean Innse Gall (Scotland, UK) to learn about the work of the EnergyMeasures project. Charlie Healey, project officer at Tighean Innse Gall briefed the Commission about the essential work of the project and how it meets the parallel demands of tackling energy poverty and helping Scotland reach its net zero plans.

Country Update: North Macedonia

Northern Macedonia is strongly affected by energy poverty, and the fact that 61 % of the population uses wood for heating further complicates the situation. And it makes Skopje one of the most polluted cities in Europe.

Bulgaria is severely affected by fuel poverty, which has become one of the biggest challenges for social inclusion. The attention is drawn to the government to provide a definition of energy poverty and to develop tools to alleviate it.

Energy poverty is a widespread problem and also affects high-income countries in Western Europe, such as the Netherlands. Energy poverty is a pressing problem there, which is why local measures are being taken to combat it.
